How We Review

Every review on Kids Reading Lab follows the same method so our ratings stay consistent and honest.

Where our information comes from

We analyze published pricing and plan terms (including renewal rates and trial windows), app-store ratings and their volumes on the Apple App Store and Google Play, expert evaluations from organizations such as Common Sense Media, and Better Business Bureau records. Where effectiveness research exists, we report the results and note who conducted or commissioned the studies. We do not publish fabricated testimonials, invented statistics, fake countdown timers, or invented review counts.

How we score

Our 1–5 rating weighs value for money (against free alternatives, which we rank honestly), curriculum quality and scope, transparency of pricing and cancellation terms, independent ratings, and suitability for the stated age range. We deliberately surface the most common complaints and the least flattering fine print so you can decide with full information. No app can guarantee a learning outcome, and we never suggest one will.

Our audience

We write for parents and guardians. This site is not directed to children, contains no child-directed content or interactive features for children, and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Editorial independence

We earn affiliate commissions on some links (see our Affiliate Disclosure), but commissions never change a rating or ranking. Several apps we rank highly — including our current top pick, which is free — pay us nothing. When a competing product is a better fit, we say so.
